'The name of Dick Whinnerah will be remembered by the generation of Islanders who knew St Helier before it was transformed with pedestrian precincts and chains of shops replacing the likes of Noel & Porter. Trading as Richard Whinnerah, the King Street shop with its distinctive Kodak sign sold cameras, film and accessories and provided an invaluable service developing and printing photographs for residents and visitors.
This determined man had arrived in Jersey between the wars as a teenager. A lifetime of hard work culminated in a successful business which coincided with Jersey's post-war Tourism boom, in 'black and white' and the colourful decades which followed.
