Protecting the Past
Société Jersiaise, Members Room
Catherine Kirby will talk about, and show images of, some of the many and varied archives she has had the privilege to work since establishing herself as a freelance archivist. The subjects of these collections will include stereoscopic photographs, a family of hoteliers, women’s history, a brewery, a department store and two of Jersey’s most well known residents.
Catherine was the first Islander to qualify as an archivist, the timing coincided with the establishment of the Jersey Archive, where she worked for seven years. After a leg on the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in 2001, a project at The Women’s Library in London, two years at The National Trust for Jersey and the arrival of two children, Catherine became a freelance archivist in 2010.
